Nuclear Power Plant Sirens across New Jersey

New Jersey has a total of three nuclear power stations with two of the units being currently operational as of 2024. The sirens were installed as a precaution after Three Mile Island. They were installed at all three of the power plants, Oyster Creek Hope Creek, and Salem Creek. All three of the power plants used sirens from Alerting Communicators of America also known as ACA sirens. The sirens for Hope Creek and Salem Creek comprised of, 11 Cyclone sirens, 17 Allertors, and 3 Banshees. This system would last a short time before being upgraded with Penetrators in 1981. On the other hand, the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant had Cyclones and Banshees up until 2013. Hope and Salem Creek nuclear power plants decided to replace all of the old penetrator Sirens with American Signal Corporation (rebranded ACA) Tempest (T-121) sirens around 2006. This system still serves the power plant today. On the other hand, Oyster Creek in 2013 decided to do the same thing. They replaced all of their Cyclone and Banshee Sirens with American Signal Corporations Tempest (T-128) sirens. Oyster Creek unfortunately shut down in 2016 and therefore all of the sirens are now inactive for that power plant. They are still spectacles to look at though. The other sirens for Salem and Hope Creek are still operational, however.
